Using a standard is the best way to demonstrate that your safeguarding design has taken all reasonable precautions. CSA, ANSI, and ISO publish machine safety standards for robots, presses, AGVs, and general production machinery.
They are not laws though. Unless identified in legislation, using a safety standard for machine guarding design is entirely optional. If you don’t use a standard, what are you doing besides just guessing?
